Brewers beat Dodgers 2-1 in NLCS Game 1 as Turang homers and bullpen holds
Brice Turang homered off Tarik Skubal, Luis Lara singled home the go-ahead run and four Milwaukee relievers shut the door as the Brewers beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 2-1 in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series on Sunday night.
The result: The Milwaukee Brewers beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 2-1 in NLCS Game 1 at American Family Field before a crowd of 42,617, AP and MLB.com reported. The win snapped Milwaukee’s seven-game postseason losing streak against Los Angeles, which included last year’s NLCS sweep.
How Milwaukee scored: Turang led off the fourth with a home run off Skubal, driving a 95.5 mph sinker into the home bullpen in left-center to tie the game, AP reported. In the fifth, Garrett Mitchell walked, Cooper Pratt bunted him to second, and Lara singled him home to center for the lead, according to AP and MLB.com.
Misiorowski grinds, bullpen closes: Brewers starter Jacob Misiorowski was taxed early, throwing 35 pitches in the second inning, when Andy Pages’ RBI single scored Shohei Ohtani, AP reported. The Dodgers chased him in the fifth. From there, DL Hall, Abner Uribe, Aaron Ashby (two innings) and Trevor Megill, who earned the save, held Los Angeles scoreless. AP said Milwaukee’s bullpen has allowed one earned run in 23 2/3 postseason innings.
Dodgers’ missed chances: Los Angeles went 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position, grounded into three double plays and stranded nine runners, AP reported, dropping to 2-for-22 with runners in scoring position this postseason. The Dodgers are chasing a third straight World Series title. AP noted it is the first NLCS between 100-win teams since the Cincinnati Reds and Philadelphia Phillies in 1976.
Up next: Game 2 is Monday at 5 p.m. ET in Milwaukee, with Yoshinobu Yamamoto starting for the Dodgers and Logan Henderson for the Brewers, MLB.com and AP reported. After Sunday’s game, Milwaukee leads the best-of-seven series 1-0.
