Brewers rout Rays 10-1 in Game 3, one win from their first World Series title

The Milwaukee Brewers beat the Tampa Bay Rays 10-1 in Game 3 of the World Series on Monday night at Tropicana Field and lead the best-of-seven series 3-0, MLB.com reported. An eight-run fifth inning, all with two outs, broke the game open, and Robert Gasser threw six scoreless innings. Game 4 is Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET.

The fifth inning: Milwaukee led 2-0 when Christian Yelich was called out on a force play at second base with two outs in the fifth, but the call was overturned on a Brewers challenge, loading the bases, MLB.com reported. The Brewers then scored eight runs, all with two outs, a World Series record for two-out runs in a single inning, according to MLB.com. They did it without a home run.

The stars: Gasser allowed one hit and one walk with three strikeouts over six innings, MLB.com reported. Jackson Chourio had four hits by the end of the fifth inning, one shy of the World Series single-game record, and every Brewers starter reached base. Freddy Peralta, the former Brewer who started for Tampa Bay, was charged with five runs and took the loss, according to MLB.com and Baseball-Reference.

History: Milwaukee has won eight straight games this postseason, MLB.com reported. Teams with a 3-0 lead in a best-of-seven postseason series have gone on to win 42 of 43 times, and only the 2004 Red Sox have come back from 0-3 to win, according to MLB.com. No team has reached Game 6 of a World Series after trailing 3-0.

Game 4: The Rays will start Griffin Jax on Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET at Tropicana Field, MLB.com reported. The Brewers had not announced a starter after Brandon Woodruff, who had expected to start Game 4, pitched the ninth inning of Game 3. The game airs on FOX.
