Dodgers, Brewers and Rays advance to LCS; Guardians stay alive against White Sox

Three Division Series ended Wednesday. The Dodgers beat the Braves 4-1 and the Brewers beat the Padres 3-1, setting up an NLCS rematch, while the Rays finished a sweep of the Yankees 4-3. Cleveland avoided elimination with a 9-3 win in Chicago.

Dodgers 4, Braves 1 (Atlanta): With Game 4 tied 1-1 in the seventh, Andy Pages lined a two-run, bases-loaded single off Robert Suarez on a full count, and Max Muncy later added a homer, his 19th in the postseason, MLB.com and AP reported. Edwin Díaz got the save. Los Angeles won the series 3-1 and reached its third straight NLCS as it tries to become the first National League team to win three straight World Series, AP said.

Brewers 3, Padres 1 (San Diego): Garrett Mitchell tripled and scored the tiebreaking run in the fifth on Jackson Chourio’s RBI single, then caught Manny Machado’s 406-foot drive at the right-center wall in the eighth, AP reported. Starter Robert Gasser gave four solid innings, and relievers Aaron Ashby, Abner Uribe and Trevor Megill held San Diego hitless the rest of the way, MLB.com said. Fernando Tatis Jr. homered for the Padres. The win snapped Milwaukee’s 12-game postseason road losing streak dating to 2018 and sent the 103-win Brewers to the NLCS for the second straight year.

Rays 4, Yankees 3 (New York): Victor Mesa Jr. hit a tiebreaking two-run homer off Max Fried in the sixth, and Ryan Vilade also homered, AP reported. In the bottom of the sixth, Anthony Volpe’s apparent game-tying two-run homer was caught by a fan reaching over the wall; on video review it was ruled fan interference, and Volpe got an RBI double instead. New York did not get a runner past second after that. Tampa Bay reached the ALCS for the first time since 2020, and the Yankees’ title drought reached 17 seasons, AP said.

Guardians 9, White Sox 3 (Chicago): Jo Adell and José Ramírez each hit two-out triples as Cleveland avoided a sweep in ALDS Game 3, AP reported.

Where things stand: After Wednesday’s games, the White Sox lead the Guardians 2-1, with Game 4 on Thursday in Chicago and Parker Messick starting for Cleveland. The Rays will host the White Sox-Guardians winner in ALCS Game 1 on Monday. The Dodgers and Brewers open the NLCS on Sunday in Milwaukee.
