Stock futures fall as investors weigh Tesla and Meta results and oil climbs
US stock futures fell early Thursday, before the market opened, as investors digested third-quarter results from Tesla and Meta Platforms and oil prices rose, CNBC reported. Nasdaq-100 futures were down about 1.8% in early trading. These are premarket moves, not the day’s closing numbers.
The premarket picture: By 5:16 a.m. ET, S&P 500 futures were down 80 points, or 1.0%, Nasdaq-100 futures had dropped 533 points, or 1.8%, and Dow futures had fallen 332 points, or 0.6%, Investing.com reported. CNBC reported similar declines in an update at 4:31 a.m. ET.
Tesla: Tesla reported third-quarter revenue of $28.05 billion, roughly flat from a year earlier, and net income of $787 million, down from $1.37 billion, The Wall Street Journal reported. The company said battery availability was still the limiting factor in increasing vehicle volumes, according to its quarterly update. Tesla shares were 4.59% lower in premarket trading, CNBC reported.
Meta: Meta reported a revenue beat on Wednesday along with strong guidance for the current quarter, and its shares were up 0.74% before the opening bell, according to CNBC.
Oil and the backdrop: Brent crude futures were up 3.3% at $112.39 a barrel and US West Texas Intermediate crude was up 2.5% at $99.64, Investing.com reported. The Wall Street Journal pointed to another jump in oil prices driven by fresh strikes on Saudi Arabia as one possible reason for the selling. The main US indexes closed higher on Wednesday, Investing.com reported.
What to watch: Premarket moves can change before the 9:30 a.m. ET open. Nothing here is investment advice.
