Trump accepts midterm results, says Iran war played a role in GOP losses
President Donald Trump said he accepts the results of Tuesday’s midterm elections, in which Democrats won control of both chambers of Congress. He also said the war with Iran was “a piece of” his party’s losses, but that he does not regret it.
Accepting the result: Trump told The New York Times he was “absolutely willing” to accept the outcome and ready to work with Democrats, according to People and Israel Hayom, which cited the Times interview.
On Iran: “I think a part of it was Iran,” Trump told Fox News, Reuters reported. He told The Wall Street Journal, “I did the right thing. I would have done it again,” according to Reuters. Reuters noted the war is in its ninth month.
Veto warning: Trump congratulated Democrats in the Fox News interview, AFP reported, but said he could veto bills he opposes. Trump’s statements are his own account; the new Congress takes office in January.
