World Series opens Friday in Milwaukee: Misiorowski vs. Martinez in Game 1
The Milwaukee Brewers host the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 1 of the World Series at 8 p.m. ET on Friday at American Family Field, with Jacob Misiorowski starting for Milwaukee and Nick Martinez for Tampa Bay, MLB.com reported. Neither franchise has won a World Series, according to MLB.com.
Milwaukee’s starter: Misiorowski, 24, led the majors during the regular season with a 1.80 ERA and 252 strikeouts, CBS Sports reported. He has not finished five innings in either of his two postseason starts because of high pitch counts, according to CBS Sports. Friday will be his first start in 11 days, CBS Sports reported.
Tampa Bay’s choice: The Rays picked Martinez over ace Drew Rasmussen, giving Rasmussen an extra day of rest before Game 2, MLB.com and ESPN reported. Rasmussen started Game 5 of the American League Championship Series, according to MLB.com.
How they got here: The Brewers swept the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Championship Series, CBS Sports reported. Because of a Wild Card Series bye and that sweep, Milwaukee will have played only eight games in the 25 days before Game 1, according to CBS Sports. The Rays won the American League pennant against the Cleveland Guardians.
