World Series Game 3 preview: Rays turn to Freddy Peralta, down 2-0 to the Brewers
The Tampa Bay Rays host the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 3 of the World Series on Monday at 8 p.m. ET at Tropicana Field, MLB.com reported. Milwaukee leads the best-of-seven series 2-0. ALCS MVP Freddy Peralta, a former Brewer, starts for Tampa Bay against left-hander Robert Gasser. This is a preview; the game has not been played.
The matchup: Peralta is 2-0 with a 1.08 ERA this postseason and has allowed two runs in 16 2/3 innings, CBS Sports reported. He is 7-0 with a 0.89 ERA in his last 10 games since August 26, according to MLB.com. He spent his first eight seasons with Milwaukee before a January trade. Gasser has allowed one run in nine innings over two postseason starts and has not pitched since October 14, MLB.com and CBS Sports reported.
What the Rays need: Tampa Bay is 3-for-20 with runners in scoring position in the series, CBS Sports reported. “Hopefully it's a seven-inning boost of 105 pitches and he comes out of the ballgame with the lead,” manager Kevin Cash said of Peralta, according to CBS Sports. The Rays went 59-27 at home this season, CBS Sports reported.
Milwaukee’s bullpen: Brewers relievers have a 1.24 ERA this postseason, MLB.com reported. Aaron Ashby has thrown 15 2/3 scoreless innings, one out shy of Andrew Miller’s record to begin a postseason, CBS Sports reported.
History: It will be the first World Series game at Tropicana Field since 2008, MLB.com reported. Of 57 teams to lead the World Series 2-0, 46 went on to win, according to MLB.com. Game 3 airs on FOX.
