You Can See Everything edges Clayface in a slow Halloween box office weekend
A24’s documentary You Can See Everything was on track to lead a slow Halloween weekend at the domestic box office with about $10.8 million in its third weekend, just ahead of Warner Bros. and DC’s Clayface at about $10.4 million, according to Deadline’s Saturday estimates. These are early estimates; studio figures come later.
The top of the chart: The three-hour film about Elizabeth Holmes, from Lance Oppenheim and Nathan Fielder, was headed for a domestic total of about $64 million, Deadline reported. Clayface, directed by James Watkins, was headed for a 57% drop in its second weekend and a total of about $44 million.
The rest of the top five: Laika’s Wildwood was third at about $7.1 million, followed by Black Bear’s Wicker at about $4 million and Paramount’s Street Fighter at about $3.5 million, according to Deadline.
Why it’s slow: Halloween fell on a Saturday, and no major studio opened a wide release, Gold Derby noted before the weekend. Gold Derby had forecast $14 million for You Can See Everything and $12 million for Clayface. Deadline said all films together were on pace for just over $63 million, above the year’s weakest weekend of $54.8 million in January.
Newcomers: Briarcliff’s holiday horror film Christmas at the Kringles, the widest new release at 1,825 locations, was headed for about $675,000, Deadline reported. Deadline also reported that A24 has passed half a billion dollars at the domestic box office this year, its highest ever.
